Billion-Dollar Dessert Bars

After some not very extensive research, I believe I have come to discover why the delicious, decadent, rich, and fantastic shortbread, chocolate, caramel, sometimes coconut, sometimes pretzels, sometimes nuts dessert bars are called “million-dollar bars.”

Chocolate million-dollar bars. Full of rich chocolate, chopped nuts (optional), coconut flakes, and crushed pretzels, our million-dollar bars really do taste like a million dollars and are delicious!

They taste like A MILLION BUCKS!

Of course, they do – rich buttery shortbread serves as the crust, which is topped with layers upon layers of deliciousness. What could go wrong?

Nothing, really.

These bars though are BILLION-dollar dessert bars. Only because they are better than one million.

Peanut butter and chocolate are ALWAYS the way to go.

Sure, caramel, pretzels, and nuts are great, but it’s all about the marriage of peanut butter and chocolate, and in this case, the love child: coconut.

Billion-Dollar Dessert Bars

Crust:
8 Tbs. butter, melted
1 cup all-purpose flour
2/3 cup powdered sugar
1/4 tsp. sea salt

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.

Mix together all the crust ingredients.

Press into a parchment-lined square baking dish and bake for about 15 minutes, until fragrant and golden brown.

Billion-Dollar Layers:
1/2 cup smooth peanut butter
1/2 cup sweetened coconut flakes
10 oz. dark chocolate chunks
1/3 cup heavy cream

While the crust is still warm, just out of the oven, slather a layer of peanut butter over the top and allow to melt.

Sprinkle and spread the coconut flakes.

While all of that is cooling, heat the chocolate and cream over low heat and stir until creamy and well combined.

Spread the chocolate over the top of the coconut, evenly.

Chill to set and slice to serve.

You will feel like a BILLION BUCKS have crossed your lips!
